From June the 1st reopening of the mountain pastures (malga) of the Asiago Plateau: this summer let's go to mountain pasture (malga)!

"now cows and calves, sheeps and lambs, horses and colts are on the high pastures ... yesterday I went up to the old road that I used to take when I was a kid with my grandfather and my father to visit the most beautiful mountain pastures (malga) of the "Asiago Plateau" so wrote in his wonderful book 'Amore di Confine" the great Mario Rigoni Stern. He loved the mountain pastures (malga) of his Asiago Plateau, he was very proud of them and also during the last period of his life, when the disease had overcome him, he was accompanied by his son John along the dirt roads that lead  to these wonderful places still nowadays, where great cheeses are born. Many times I went up to the Hills of Cima Larici to the Porta Manazzo mountain pasture (malga), where even today the "extraordinary malgaro" Toni Rodeghiero and his two children, from June to late September, load their mountain pasture (malga) with animals, tools, supplies and everything useful for life in mountain. Everyday they welcome tourists providing them with homemade pasta, soups, "polenta and sopressa", and especially Asiago cheese. The atmosphere is really beautiful, you can eat in the middle of nature and breathe pure air, the smell of pasture envelops you, it is really an unforgettable experience. The mountain pasture (malga) tourism is important, getting into pasture you will discover a different world, even from the panorama of mountains and the area that has suffered depopulation in the past. Starting from Asiago plateau, where the number of open mountain pastures (malga) is perhaps the highest of our mountains, I can think to the pastures of Valle D'Aosta, where there are wonderful Fontina cheeses, or to the many places of Lombardia mountains. And then to Lessinia, the home of Monteveronese, and to the Dolomites of Trentino-Alto Adige, Belluno. And from Friuli Venezia Giulia down along the Apennines, to arrive in Sils and in the Sicilian Madonie or in the Nebrodi and Peloritani Mountains Park, without forgetting the Gennargentu in the Sardinian land. The slogan of this summer will be: Go to mountain pasture (malga)! Alberto Marcomini in Carta da formaggio, n°6, juin 2011
