On the 21st of March, the director of the Consortium for the Protection of Asiago Cheese, Flavio Innocenzi, was appointed to the board of producer representatives in AREPO (Association of European Regions for Products of Origin). In Brussels Mr. Innocenzi will participate on behalf of the Consortia for the Protection of PDO and PGI from the Veneto region.
Veneto is a territory with 90 GI producers recognised by the EU, 38 of which for PDO/PGI/TSG foods and 52 for DOCG/DOC/IGT wines; 1811 undertakings engaged in organic farming; 62 integrated production rules for crop productions and 7 for the livestock sector. All this in the most widely visited region in Italy and the only one included in the European top 10 with over 70 million tourists per year, in continual growth, a large number of which from wine and food tourism, for an impact of 1.58 billion in revenue throughout the territory (source Qualitvita) deriving from geographical indication food and wine and five of the first eight Italian provinces for the production of DOCG/DOC/IGT wines, two of which in first place (Verona and Treviso) with export trends in continual increase. Numbers that place Veneto in leading position for high quality AGRIFOOD & WINE at both national and European level.
